Earlier this year, I collaborated with National Geographic on a vision study for future lunar settlements.
Grounded in current engineering constraints and near-term space capabilities, we examined what an initial Moon-based industrial complex could plausibly look like: spanning site logistics, energy systems, excavation workflows, and early habitation strategies.
The work referenced a range of existing technology pathways, including:
• Excavation systems informed by heavy-industry precedents (e.g., Komatsu)
• Solar power architectures aligned with aerospace R&D trajectories (e.g., Lockheed Martin)
• SpaceX Starship as a candidate platform for early-stage deployment and habitation scenarios
